In an attempt to escape a dark past, flamboyant Marie moves from France to South Africa. Despite her desire to vanish into anonymity, she starts a small restaurant, which soon becomes the meeting point for an array of locals and foreigners. Unlikely friendships develop amongst a group of eight characters from different walks of life, strengthened by the one thing they have in common: moving abroad and starting a new life.
Set against the majestic, natural beauty of Cape Town, and interwoven with significant historic events in a post-apartheid era, three couples, and two single women are introduced revealing their respective quirks, backgrounds, and secrets.
Whether due to the hardship of growing up as a teenager in Northern Ireland, the nagging inner voice of a religious upbringing in a small town Downunder, or hiding a progressive disease from the world, each friend experiences shared events from their own, unique perspective.
It becomes clear that one of them is hiding a secret too painful to lay bare.
