My Son and His Friends Can't Get Enough of This Book!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
This is a cute Haloween story about a little witch and warlock going to a Haloween party. Each page has a few lines of text, great child-like illustrations, and an interactive activity for the reader to do. My toddler loves to read this book so much that one of his first recognizable phrases was asking to read "Dare You." He and his friends love the repetition, the fun illustrations, and pretending to find things scary when they're really not (such as a smiling skeleton hiding behind a grave stone). Different pages appeal to him at different times (now one of his favorite pages is the scratch-and-sniff stinky stew which he used to race past because he couldn't wait to get to the little pet bat that can be taken out of his cage). My son's favorite feature of the book, though, is the removable "Book of Spells by Herman Wells," a tiny cardboard book of only a few pages and no words, but hysterically funny illustrations indicating how the reader might turn a cat into a tiger. We have to read the book of spells at least two or three times before he can be coaxed into returning it to its little pocket. Then we return the bat to his cage and say good-bye to George and Griselda until the next reading. At first I wondered about the subject matter, but this is presented so innocently and playfully, and as a Haloween story, that I don't give it a second thought now.In addition to learning to do all the activities and put the removable items back where they belong, reading this book has taught my toddler a lot about books and the pure joy that they can bring. And because he loves this book so much, he really works hard at being gentle with it--a difficult thing at his age.We are sorry to hear this title is out of print. We were hoping to buy copies to give as gifts.
