Dr. Beck has rendered the church, and particularly pastors, a distinct service by serving as Bible leader at a number of "Missions to Ministers" at PTR's in various parts of the country. These faith-strengthening and soul comforting discourses are now put into print at the request of several of these groups. Someone has said that the greatest need in the church today is "to evangelize the evangelizers." Since pastors, the undershepherds of the Good Shepherd, are called to "feed the church of God," there is always the possibility that in feeding others they themselves forget to eat. They need to be evangelized no less than their hearers. Wm. F. Beck is one of the able translators and linguists of the Lutheran Church of our day. Anyone who has devoted so liberally of his time and talents to uncover the meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek texts should have developed a very clear concept of the simple Gospel of salvation by grace, by faith, and by the blood of Jesus. This Wm. Beck possesses to an eminent degree. He well deserves the affectionate title of "Bible" Beck, since receiving the Gospel and communicating it can never be separated.
