Black and June Torres joined the Chicago Police Department to try yo make a difference in people's lives. When they discovered along the way was a sharp racial divide and a community distrustful of minority police officers.

What they learned in the police academy would not always work in the many diverse communities they served. Those life lessons wouldn't come from a curriculum.

They worked with a cast of characters, and for a caste system, with different views of how the police should serve, and sometimes steered them in different directions.
