Great Read - especially for Jr High and High School kids

I highly recommend this book. It was a "page-turner" and deals w/ some tough issues in an honest way.

Encouraging

I think that Helen's review may have been premature, as well as misinformed. I wonder if she has really read this book. More than simply skimming but read it, truly and deeply. My sister and I both have, it was hugely influential to her and encouraged her to begin writing herself. It is the author's first published book, and for a new author was an exemplary effort. I also wonder what was meant by the "cliques" comment. Was that meant to imply "cliches"? The book encourages teens, tweens, and young women to embrace their personal power. To aspire for better things, and not allow their surroundings to prevent them from achieving great things. The station that you are born to in life cannot stop you from doing more. This work is an example of that ideal. A wonderful read.

Parents; Read it. Get your kids to read it. Then talk about it.

I highly recommend that parents and their teens and pre-teens read this book. My straight-"A", 13 year old daughter and I really enjoyed reading it. We had a brief but important conversation about it afterwards. The characters are fleshed out enough for their parts in the story which flows nicely. I've never surfed anything except maybe the Web. After reading this book, I have a better understanding of the joy of surfing. There is a purposeful yet subtle placation about the main character's dire situation. Personnally, this lead to a real eye-opener for me. It was a very precarious situation for Marguerite which, luckily, she was able to overcome. Can you tell that I got into the story? I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately, in this day and age, Marguerite's situation is not too uncommon. This is enjoyable reading. Can't wait to find out what is in store for Marguerite in the next book.

waves of grace

I loved the book. I bought copies for several nieces for Christmas. One niece hates to read, but her name is Grace so she read the book. She not only loved it but is going to read more. I'm looking forward to his next book. Would Helen be happier if marguerite had been raped and murdered by her moms boyfriend. The book is a great read for young teens. I think helens review is off the mark.

A riveting coming of age tale

When life collapses all around you, someone always has to look to the one thing that will keep them sane. "Waves of Grace" is the story of Marguerite and her disintegrating life at home. All she has to keep her spirits up are her friends, and her pastime of surfing. A championship is coming, and Marguerite direly wants to compete - but life seems to object to her getting to do so. "Waves of Grace" is a riveting coming of age tale, highly recommended to teen readers who like a good book as much as they like catching a wave.
