Basements are always an entry portal for evil.
For eight-year-old Andy Bennington, the phrase invades his mind just before the appearance of a small puddle of water on his basement floor.
Just water, nothing scary about water.
The little fright is forgotten, and the normalcy of life intervenes.
Then a nightmare and an accidental death follow soon after.
Thus begins a two-decade odyssey of normal life experiences with sports, girlfriends, and family dynamics. Intermixed are episodes of fear, forgotten events, and failed connections.

As a teen, family secrets are unveiled by a grandfather suffering from dementia. The myth of a legendary bluesman, fabulous wealth, and a strange jar becomes Andy's inheritance and curse. Later in life, a mysterious woman from his grandparent's past torments his dreams, demands recompense, and threatens his future. Devices to forget the past and bury the fear can no longer be applied.
