Water Fills Our Lungs is a quirky young adult fiction book set in a flooded world where the only inhabitable land is a valley between two mountains and two World Dams. The dams are aging and soon they're going to break. Kat, a girl in her late teens with a punk attitude and poor social skills, believes that she has some influence over the weather but doesn't know how to control her powers. Scared and insecure about herself, she feels like an outcast, and struggles to make friends. Things begin to change when she meets Antonio, a boy in who she can confide. They need to find the origin of her powers and figure out if there's some way to stop the dams from breaking, so turn to the one place with more knowledge than anywhere else. Their local library What they learn there takes them on an amazing journey across the waters, where they come face-to-face with the devastating effects of climate change, the downward spiral of violence, and the corrupting power of authority.
