Waste: Discussing Health Insurance As a Social Security of the Waste Pickers

The Indian economy is categorised into two sectors, namely: organised and unorganised sectors. The unorganised sector consists of a pivotal part of the Indian economy. Rag pickers are that class of the employees, who can be considered as an organised- unorganised labour class. Rag-picking business entails the sorting, collecting, and selling of these various waste materials that can be found at dumpsites, riverbanks, street corners, or in residential areas, which mainly consist of plastics or metals. Ragpickers mostly work without being equipped with any protective gear and are exposed to many health hazards while doing their role. Book primarily focuses on analysing the potential threats to the ragpickers, different health insurance schemes which are provided to the Ragpickers as social security by the Government, and finally discusses the possible loopholes in the Government schemes.
