This book is an historical narrative of the Washington Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla, Washington from the beginning of the Odd Fellows Lodge in 1863 to 2015. The Home was created and supported by all of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges in the state of Washington. At one time it housed more than 200 orphans and half-orphans who were homeless because of the lack of work for their fathers who traveled farther West to search for employment in the early 1900s. The orphans joined the elderly members of the Odd Fellows, their wives and widows in a community sustained by orchards and vegetable gardens. There have been no orphans in the Home since 1942, but it is a thriving retirement community of more than 300 residents and 230 staff members.
