In the realm of Brukkeland, a young, winged warrior, Utta, faces a profound personal and societal downfall when the revered Vulmane religious leaders strip him of his wings for a crime of vanity. Shamed and cast out from his life as a warrior, Utta struggles with his new identity, especially in the shadow of his father, Kring, a leader in Brukkeland's legendary "flights." Despite Kring's surprising lack of anger and his belief in a prophesy foretelling that Utta's loss would lead to something greater, Utta embarks on a quest to reclaim his purpose.

When Utta is recruited by his father's friend, Commander Unk, to participate in a slave raid on the mysterious island of Prygon, Utta's internal conflict deepens. A chance encounter with a slave girl, Jeva, opens his eyes to the cruelty of the world he once defended, forcing him to choose between wealth and his moral compass. As political upheaval unfolds back in Brukkeland, Unk betrays the crown, leading to the assassination of the queen and Utta's father. With Prince Bahtob fleeing for his life, the prince seeks Utta's help in reclaiming the throne.

Utta joins forces with Bahtob, a bookish and unassuming prince, as they seek aid from the Westerzanders, a mysterious people from across the impassable Great Sea. Guided by a legendary fairy named Licter, they journey into lands filled with magic and deception, only to discover that the Westerzanders may have their own dark designs for Brukkeland. With treachery on all sides, Utta must decide where his true loyalties lie: with his homeland, with his newfound love for Jeva, or with the prophesy that foretold his rise through the ashes of disgrace.

As the final battle looms against the usurper Unk, Utta's choices will determine not just the fate of Brukkeland but the legacy of his name. Will he fulfill the prophesy and become a hero, or will the land fall into an even darker era of enslavement and bloodshed?
