This book is a polemical historical narrative based on past American Indian depredations, especially the Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapahoe. It primarily concentrates on the period from 1850 until 1866. The term "polemic" is defined as a "controversial argument, esp. one refuting or attacking an opinion or a doctrine." The opinion I will be attempting to refute is today's contemporary interpretation which states in general that the American Plains Indians were helpless, innocent, oppressed victims of white brutality. I will argue that the historical American Plains Indians were primarily warriors steeped in the tradition of killing and warfare as the highest calling of the culture..
