Small Business Owners are faced with numerous challenges financially as well as their expertise in running a business. Fortunately, most problems result from regulations oversight or encountering the IRS and tax issues. Usually a small business owner does not know how important legal counsel, accounting and insurance expertise is needed in the beginning to set up their business correctly. Hiring needed advisors for guidance in getting off on the "right foot" is an imperative for the small business owner but the cost is often more than expected and put off until later which opens the door for future problems. Most small business owners will never encounter the IRS mafia or the Home Owner from Hell but they are real and the cost of justice by our legal system will financially break most small business owners even if they win the challenge. Anyone desiring to start their own business needs to learn everything possible that can or may be faced in the future of their business. Learning in the SHK (School of Hard Knocks) or in the trenches where the "rubber meets the road" is not the place you want to get an education on your own nickel, dime or multiple dollars out of your bank account. Unfortunately, our two stories are simply those that have made a difference big time in our experiences owning a business. You'll have plenty more to face in your business lifetime dealing with vendors, customers, the bank as well as your legal counsel, accounting and employees hired to help you run and build your business. Our prayer is that you will not encounter the IRS or the homeowner barracuda trying to destroy your business through a legal challenge with the justice system in your area that can't be trusted. We didn't make this stuff up one day sitting on the couch or by the pool. Employees, vendors, bankers all need to be run through your due diligence as well as vetting your clients/customers, too. An important step for your own protection as the business owner is to always know where your equipment, trucks, etc. and employees are located at all times. Remember to INSPECT what you EXPECT in all areas or you are living in a state of denial or total ignorance as a business owner. We share these "War Stories of a Small Business Owner who Survived!" in the hope that one or two family members, friends or neighbors will miss some of the experiences we learned and found in the SHK where the "rubber meets the road" during our watch.
