A heart-warming story of courage and determination
Young Ellen and her family are happy keeping a guest house in the remote coastal hamlet of Kiddlesea Bay, but everything changes when the Second World War breaks out. Ellen's father goes off to fight; she, her mother and grandfather are left to manage a large house which is soon full of evacuees.
Despite the struggle to manage in the face of increasing rationing and bad news, the house is filled with new friendships and fun. Then one of the children's fathers arrives. He turns out to be abusive to his wife and child. What will Ellen do when he threatens their whole livelihood?
