War Child: Life 2 continues to follow the life of Annalisa as she arrives in England, leaving war-torn Germany behind, her total possessions being the clothes she wore and one best dress. She meets Alfred, a Latvian, already in England, who had been a resistance fighter for a free Latvia. Escaping twice from the German SS and convicted to death, he escapes once more, this time from the Russian army, and makes his way to England. The book follows their love affair and marriage lasting over 36 years. They find ways to work together and enjoy every minute with little money, walking across London like hobos to save a few pennies and enjoying the cinema up with the gods where the cheap seats were. Their determination to succeed shines through, and they reach their pinnacle of wealth by becoming well-known lingerie manufacturers, their corsetry being sold in prominent stores across London and their work advertised on all the billboards on the Underground. Money then starts to flow in and out in record time with reckless spending on luxury cars and clubbing in famous nightclubs, whilst rubbing shoulders with royalty. The happy moments of the birth of their first boy, Sacha, are followed by more joy with Steve and then a daughter, Susie. Their total love of family fuels the juggling act to keep their love, their family, and their lifestyle in balance. We follow their new path in a small market town marooned from the excitement and buzz of city living, and the sad moments as Annalisa deals with the loss of her parents and the disappointment in her sister and brother-in-law for their betrayal. How they took a wrong turn and followed the goal of making even more money and then lost everything. But with their indomitable spirit untethered, they rise from the ashes, finding a new way and a new beginning. On the verge of chilling and enjoying their newfound version of happiness, Annalisa suffers the greatest challenge of all that nearly breaks her.
