This new biography sheds light on the private life of one of Ireland's most successful and popular writers, Walter Macken. Through his many unpublished letters to his wife, sons, editors and friends, Walter's son, Ultan charts his father's career and life, from his birth in Galway in 1915 to his untimely death in 1967.
Originally an actor, principally with An Taidhbhearc in Galway and The Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Walter played lead roles on Broadway and also acted in films, notably in Brendan Behan's The Quare Fellow. Acting was to remain an important part of his life, but it was his stirring writing that brought him true fame and acclamation.
