D.J. Gregory fell in love with golf at the age of twelve, when he first began watching the game on television and attending local tournaments with his dad. But unlike many other golf fans, D.J. never dreamed of playing professionally. He never thought of becoming a ranked amateur, or even a caddie. ?When D.J. was an infant, doctors told his parents that he would probably spend his life in a wheelchair because of his cerebral palsy. But that didn't keep D.J. from trying to beat the odds, enduring five surgeries, learning to walk with a cane, and eventually earning college degrees in sports management. Golf had always remained his passion, and in 2008, he decided to make a dream come true--to travel the country and walk with a different player at each event (every hole, every round) on the PGA Tour.. For D.J., it was the most exciting year of his life, a physically challenging but emotionally rewarding adventure filled with wonderful people, unforgettable moments, and cherished memories. Walking with Friends is a book for all the fans who live for the love of the game, for the dreamers and doers who make things happen, and for the friends who help us walk through the journey of life..
We saw DJ walk some of the courses during that year. He is such an inspiration and it is a good read. It is an easy book to read and gives some detailed insight into some of the golfers and their personalities. It was written long before Tiger's "transgressions" came to the public eye but when reading the part of this book that talks about Tiger, it certainly gives a view into some of the difficulties and pressures of "being" Tiger. What is truly impressive about this young man is his great attitude about himself and how he does not let cerebral palsy stop him. He has written this book about golf, the game he loves and the golfers he loves. He has not written to talk about himself and his difficulties, it is upbeat and charming and more than once touched my heart.

This is truly an inspirational book! How this young man walks miles with his golfing friends is amazing, but even more so is his attitude toward what, for some, is a major handicap. To DJ it is just a way of life which he deals with as I might a headache or other minor malady. I had the good fortune to encounter him at the recent Memorial tournament. Talking with DJ was also an inspiration as he trudged along, thanking me for caring enough to talk with him. What a guy, what a book!

Not only was this a great read for someone who plays and enjoys golf but Mr. D.J. Gregory's story and attitude on life are an outstanding inspiration to anyone. We can all learn alot from this young man on how to tackle life's obstacles and turn them into opportunities. I would like to see this book as required summer reading for Middle School kids whether or not they have an interest in golf. It was very uplifting for me, a 62 year old retiree.
GREAT BOOK

My husband first heard about this book when Jim Nantz and D.J. were on the Imus show. My husband(a golfer) & I (a non-golfer) both read "Walking with Friends". We both enjoyed the book, thought it was an uplifting story and a great read. D.J. Gregory is a remarkable young man. The pro's D.J. followed were all so gracious...a great group of guys. Golfer or non-golfer, this book won't disappoint. My husband also read "Always By My Side" by Jim Nantz...another great book. It's also on my list to read.

This is a very inspirational book about overcoming hardship and the love of golf. It gives insights into the PGA tour and some of the well known players. I loved the book and hope DJ will write more about his experiences. Jan Kane
