One of the best tributes highlighting the struggles of southern living during the Civil War. Frazier captures every nuance of the southern soldier making his way back to his beloved home. His words brillantly describe the world the soldier left behind and the country that surrounds his every step back to Cold Mountain!

A terrific PERSONALIZED look at the Cival War

Much more than facts and figures. The sampling of contextual content - pictures, personal letters, etc. really brings the war, and the period, to life. What every history book should be. Carl Zebrowski is one of the new breed of historical scholar: creative, insightful and, in many ways, a genius.

Fascinating photos from the Civil War homefront

I think this book is a very interesting visual introduction to the Civil War era, one of the few I have seen that isn't limited to the military aspects of the period. It collects newspaper excerpts,army camp and home front photos, posters, song lyrics and daguerreotype portraits of soldiers and their loved ones. I found it to be very interesting with many haunting and memorable images.
