Paul's life had amounted to very little. An average job, a truck on lease and a lonely rented apartment. Survival preps his only real asset. Black plastic tubs of food and tools enough to survive beyond the apocalypse. As though the new world would offer a second chance to a good life. And then he met Clair. An older woman that inspired him with her stories of the wonders of nature and the excitement of exploring the country, and she made him promise to change his life to find the love he yearned.

His meagre savings all gone after an illness. He owed as much as his truck was worth, and no one wanted to buy his expensive preps for a fair price. Then there was the threat of his driving licence being cancelled. He had no real options. Or did he?
He still had two legs and two feet. Even if he had nothing else, he could at least walk, and once he had accepted this plan, things seemed to fall into place, as though Claire's spirit was guiding him.
