Hannah was alone. It was the first day of junior high. She didn't know anyone. She didn't have any friends. She felt completely isolated and anxious as she sat on a bench in front of the school. A girl named Melissa walked up and introduced herself. It was the introduction that would change Hannah's life forever.

Set in the 1990's, Walking into Spiderwebs takes place over the course of many years in Santa Maria, California, and Visalia, California, and is told from Hannah's point of view. Her path leads to questions about authority, norms, expectations, her sexuality, and, ultimately, what is most important to her.
