Walking in Wisdom

Education is not the learning of facts but the training of minds to pick skills needed to do life. The wisdom literature (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job, etc.) is intended to impart skills necessary for life ranging from moral issues such as the meaning of life, romantic love, work, and suffering to family life, community life, finances etc. Interestingly, Proverbs has a lifelong development orientation in making the naive acquire wisdom, making them wiser.

However, against the commonly held norm that the school imparts education and wisdom, the family is the core institution of the Christian education process. The overall responsibility of the paideia - the discipline and instruction - of the children is given to the parents, especially the fathers (Eph 6:1-4; Col 3:18-21).

Thus, this devotional is to help the father and the mother to impart Godly wisdom to their children through the book of Proverbs. Your investment of time will change the destiny of your children - of whom you are simply stewards. May you be blessed as you bond with your child and encourage them to walk on the straight path in the reverence of our Lord.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Prov 22:6)
