Walker Hill is the home of, both, great joy and the setting of great sorrow. Although Walker Hill is the biographical story of Laura, her tale captures the journey of every woman trying to find herself and her place in the world. As Laura navigates the trials of her life, her marriage, and her role as a mother and daughter, the question is posed: "Should one's happiness be a priority?" Laura is the beautiful wife of a Methodist minister at the beginning of this journey. She is a bright, optimistic, breath of fresh air to the church community; however, Laura gives birth to a profoundly handicapped child, and subsequently, her husband suffers a nervous breakdown. Laura is forced to move back to her roots, back to Walker Hill. In the fold of her childhood home, back in the care of her Ma and Pa, she learns about love, loss, and discovers her own strength, as well as her weaknesses. Walker Hill is the beautiful, serene backdrop that remains steadfast throughout this story of love, sorrow, loss and triumph. Walker Hill is the story passed down from a grandmother to her granddaughter. The telling of this tale gently reveals the pieces of life that, over time, form the grandmother her granddaughter never really knew.
