Walk through cold fire was an amazing book

I Read this book when I was 14 years old I remember how much it was so like my life Friend way,my Billy was described as Carl my first love I have looked everywhere for this book and now I have found it I would love for my kids to read it.

beautiful

I found this book about 3 or 4 years ago and fell in luv with it......i read it each year at least once.....and each time it is a new experience. As I get older I can identify more with what each person is or was going through. I truly think that everyone should read this book.......it is so very close to real life...its sorta scary.

The best book BAR NONE!

I have the same experience as every other person who has reviewed this book. I first read it when I was 13 and living a life similar to Desiree. I cried my eyes out when I read the book, and then re-read it thousands of times. It is a book that teaches you about the importance of friendship and loyalty. It is also a book that tells you that you are not alone out there.

This was written from her heart and touched mine

I found this book when I was sixteen, having seen the same life that Desiree spoke of (although I was younger than her). For years I have wanted to find another person who has read this book, because it hit home so hard. My "Billy" was Jim...I sometimes wonder where he is today. My best friend, Trishee, was Violet...she was killed three years ago in a drunk driving accident and it makes it all that more important for me to have this book close to my heart. I always wanted her to read it, to see the resemblance in our families. If there is anyone who knows of how to get it, I would love to read it again. It's so good to know that there are others out there who have gone through what I lived through and Ms. Forshay-Lundsford.I'm 25 now, a college graduate, newly married, and hoping to start a family...but I was once that lost girl looking for something and found it in my "family".

My favorite teenage book of all time!

If one book could characterize my teen years, it would have to be "A Walk Through Cold Fire". Though this book was written in 1985, I didn't find it until 1989 and I just fell in love with it. I completely identified with everyone in this book especially Desiree and her repressed upper middle class background she wanted to shed. Like the main character, I got involved with a street gang much like the ones in this book. Their fierce loyalty, their love of each other was just like I experienced in my own neighborhood after they took me in. All of that had died by the time I got this book so I opened it, began to read and couldn't stop crying. This is truly the voice of a young teenage girl. All the characters were so believable. I knew people just like that. I especially loved Billy who was Desiree's love interest in the book. These were people who had grown up on the edge yet had integrity too. Violet was the perfect friend, loyal yet tough as nails. These are characters who are so much more than just words on paper. They have an incredible life that stayed inside of me to this day.I'm 28 now. I have a normal life and I work a job but once I knew a different life. I can relive those feelings in this book because reading it brings you back to that time, to that place, to those metal years I never could forget even if all it wasn't so glorious.Someone said this book changed their life and I agree 100%. This captures that time perfectly. I only wish there were more novels by this author. She really has a gift with words that's evident to anyone who reads this book. I'm so happy to find out that there are so many more like me who loved it. I hope someday they will re-release this because my copy is so tattered and falling apart. I have to say this is one of the most powerful, moving and awesome books ever. Incredible!
