Whitley places herself in the hearts and minds of the biblical characters who played parts in the Christmas narrative. She weaves stories, solidly based in scripture, that are at once compelling and thought-provoking.
The biblical characters become so relevant with the interpretation of the very talented Katerina Katsarka Whitley. This book of dramatizations revitalized the Advent season and brought me to a new understanding of the Christ event. I loved reading the book. It also would provide good material for churches that include drama in their worship or Sunday School.
reads like a novel

I loved this little book--the story of Advent through the eloquent eyes and voices of 30 humans, angels, and animals. Whitley combines scholarly text with the suspense and character development of a good novel.

family activity for the season of Advent

This is an excellent book to read as a family devotion to prepare ourselves spiritually for the birth of Christ. It is such a challenge in our country to keep ourselves and our children focused on the reason we celebrate Christmas. This book provides a fresh look at biblical characters that we have learned about in Sunday School and provides us with a new way to anticipate the birth of Christ. We plan take turns reading them aloud with our teenage children. There are many voices to choose from so the book can be used for many Advent seasons to come.
A Book for Advent, and the Rest of the Year as Well
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
A perfect book for the season before Christmas as well as one to re-read throughout the year, Waiting for Wonder is a fine example of Katerina Whitley's uncanny ability to comprehend the thoughts and emotions of the participants in the Biblical narrative. As in her earlier books, two about Biblical women and one on Jesus' final hours, Whitley again succeeds in taking the reader into the innermost thoughts of the people involved in her chosen story. In Waiting for Wonder we are introduced to those who waited. While waiting, they wondered, as we all do, about God's purposes and actions in the world. Whitley presents the inmost thoughts, questions and certainties of the prophets who saw a Messiah in Israel's future, the people who witnessed the Incarnation and those waiting for his glorious return. This slim volume give voice to people we never thought to meet and they willingly share their strength with us as we embark on our own wondrous journey in faith.
