Voyages of an Oceanless Boat is a literary fiction novel that primarily utilizes prose but includes three scenes written in the form of a play. Additionally, throughout the work, there are moments when the placement of the words on the page reflect space to create a highly visual novel.
Poverty is staged. Confined to a script of violence and the allure of the drug trade, Izzy, Oscar, and Michael are rapidly sinking into the scorched earth: their premature deaths written the day they were born. Every new experience in their community wears away at their sanity and hope of further opportunity. With each step they take, the mosaic of an American dream begins to crumble. The pieces on the ground before them arrange an image of despair and futility .
