VORRENGARDE: THE WAYFAIR SPIRIT by Harvey Heath is a dark fantasy horror tale set in Year 1677 Post-Severing, in the reformed nation of Meadwyn.
Meadwyn lives on thresholds, trade gates, cellar doors, countinghouse shutters, and the constant movement of people and coin. Then a man named Brann opens a cellar door and simply vanishes, leaving behind only a warped, seven-ridged handprint in the dirt and a cold that does not belong. The disappearances spread along the roads, and the stories people once laughed at start walking on their own.
Veteran captain Jerron Halveth gathers six specialists to hunt what the whispers call the Wayfair Spirit, a soul-thief that uses doors and doorways like hunting trails. The team tests thresholds, raises wards, maps the pattern, and walks straight toward the abandoned watch tower at the center of the circle, only to learn how little "steel and courage" matter to something that drinks the spark out of living things.
As the Spirit adapts and the cost climbs, the hunt turns north into the Faye Woods, toward ancient towers built to hold what cannot be ended. There, Jerron finds the kind of help that comes with a different price: faye protections, old laws written into stone, and Heath, a warden who has spent centuries patching the cracks left by human forgetfulness.
This book is tense, atmospheric, and tragedy-lined, with a five-part structure that tracks the escalation from first vanishing to final containment.
