Volunteering is an unpaid, freely chosen activity, usually carried out within a non-profit organization (NPO): association, NGO, trade union or public body. The person who does the work is called a "volunteer". The etymology of the word comes from the Latin "benevolus", meaning "good will".Feeling useful and doing something for others is what drives volunteers, who get involved in unpaid activities as diverse as sport, culture or leisure, humanitarian work, health, social action, defending rights, protecting the environment and biodiversity, or education.
