The Ivanenko family is an ancient Ukrainian Cossack family rooted in Bessarabia (Transnistria, Moldova). The founder of the family is considered to be Ivan 'the Rich' Ionenko, known as the Hetman of Dubossary (Khan's Ukraine, 17th century). This family also included the Hetman of Zaporozhye and Khan's Ukraine Petro Ivanenko (aka Petryk and Sulima) with a settlement in Bender, the Cossack Colonel of Bratslav Hryhoriy Ivanenko and other renown figures.

From historical sources it is known that the Ivanenkos were related by family ties to the Moldavian Lord Mushata. A study of Volodymyr Ivanenko's DNA, performed at the American Cellular Research Institute, showed that the Ivanenkos were also genetically related to many European royal and aristocratic dynasties. V. Ivanenko has the same DNA formula as Somerled Of Argyll, Sir Francis Drake, Mikolaj (Red) Radziwill, Osmans and King of the Netherlands Willem Alexander (Orange). V. Ivanenko's genetic relatives also include such famous personalities as David Hume, Max von Sydow, Benjamin Netanyahu, Tom Hanks, Anderson Cooper... On the maternal line, V. Ivanenko is genetically related to Princess Diana.

Prof. Dr. V. Ivanenko decided to publish this study given that it can be of use to many people in their genealogical research, as well as to genealogy, ethnology and historical science in general.
