Awesome Vocab Book!

I had the pleasure of having Dr. Popkin as my college professor while attending Fisk. In my honors English class, he used this book and it helped to cultivate my rich passion for etymology and vocabulary to date. The book is great because it gives the story/origin behind each word along with its meaning making it much easier to remember. A great addition to any student's library!

PERFECT VOCAB. BOOK!

This is a great vocab. book! This book is probably meant for high school or college students, but i'm only in 7th grade. (well, i go to a private school, so...) Any-hooo, i totally recomend this book. i love how it gives the whole story about the origin of the word. It'll help you oodlez in the future, trust me! ^_^

learning new words is fun

This is a great book of interesting words to boost your vocabulary. It is 10 chapters with 10 words in each chapter. There is a story of the words' origins or its use and then synonyms or similiar words, antonyms, and several exercises to see if you can match the word with its definition or use in a sentence correctly. There is also a long multiple choice test in the end. sample words: cupidity, ephemeral, decimate, indolent, procrustean, prosaic.

For anyone applying to high school or college........

This is a great book for anyone who is applying to high school or college and needs some work with vocabulary. In this book you read a short paragraph about how the word is used and then you do excerises at the end to see if you understand the words. I would totally recommend it!

The best vocab. book I've seen

this is definitely the best vocabulary book i've seen. unlike other books which just give you bunch of words and their definitions, every word that's in this book is followed by a short, interesting story that shows the history of these words. it is clear that the author has put in a great amount of time and effort into writing this wonderful book.
