Straight up: It's a book about an 18 year old, third culture kid driving fast cars while trying to keep his spiritual identity in a secular world. The yapping: This is a story about 18 year old Zeke Az. He's a prospective Formula 1 driver and competes in the ELMS, Formula 2, and the fictional racing series: Formula X. Zeke's an interesting character, because extrinsically, he seems like he lives a near perfect life. He's rich, talented, well known, and able to get almost everything he could ever want. But intrinsically, he struggles massively with trying to process the grief of his mother's passing, and the guilt of being a bad rep for his faith. Zeke is, by all means, a practicing Muslim. But he is also, undoubtedly, a sinner. And that quality is characterised by his string of absolutely awful and unhealthy romantic relationships. How does he try and fix this? Well, initially he doesn't, and just tries to accept the fact that maybe there isn't anyone who he should be with. That is until he meets the absolutely audacious, and ambitious photographer, Lyla Alexanders. Lyla's greatest strengths are: the fact that she wears her soul on her sleeve, and her intolerance of any kind of B.S. whatsoever. Zeke's greatest weaknesses are: his suppressed soul, and his tendency to B.S. his way through everyone and anyone in his life. I can go on about Zyla for another 130 000 words, but really, what this book is about: is how Zeke tries to mend that spirit which that 15-year-old boy broke, one bad decision at a time; and how he succeeds.
