This is a novel about one of the thousands of men who shivered and suffered in the trenches during World War 1. John Robert Lowerson, from Seaham in County Durham, did exist, and in the mid 1980's a young girl believes she saw his ghost ... more than once. I was asked to write a book about John, but very little information was available apart from a couple of family documents and the war records saying he died at the Battle Of The Somme on Saturday 1st of July 1916. But I was intrigued by the story and I wrote this novel. Not all the characters in this book are fictional, and some of the events actually happened. I want to take the reader back to the horrors of the war that was to "end all wars." In retrospect, it didn't "end" anything ... there is a war somewhere this very day. But perhaps it should have. This is an account of one man's struggle to survive.
