The first book of poetry published by internationally renowned spoken word performer, Shane Koyczan. Voted to *Best Books of 2005* lists in the Guardian (UK) and Globe and Mail newspapers. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Right up there with Pablo Neruda and Nizar Qabbani for evocative imagery and powerful voice, Shane Koyczan is an amazing poet. He does things with words that astonish me in the same way that art made out of 'found objects' does, astonishes me the way the first flower in spring does on a dreary day, astonishes me like a stubbed toe during a sleepwalking episode. Most of us sleepwalk through life, never seeing the small or ugly things, ignoring the small pains, and hiding from the big ones. Shane takes on all the uncertainties and fears in Life and reminds us about what it means to be human. His poems cover anguish, being, becoming, desire, death, humor, love--the entire gamut of experience. This book, and any of his spoken-word recordings you can get a hold of, is time and money well-spent. I promise.
Visiting Hours

The title is visiting hours, but like the poem that inspires it- I can't help but have the feeling that I wish it wasn't just visiting hours. The worste part of this book is having to shut it at somepoint. I want to move into words like these. This book, and these poems, are truely amazing.
