I played around with ideas for this book for eight years. I've been selling seasonal plants and fresh produce for over 50 years and selling at the farmers market now for 27 years. I love doing it, and every year, it gets better.
About 10 years ago, we did a survey counting customers. We knew that we were pulling in 10 to 12 thousand customers a day. That really bothered me because that was only three percent of the area population. I decided that I would like to try to educate folks about the farmers' market. Who better to educate folks than their kids? If the children read this, I think at least some will want to visit the market. Also, I'm hoping that parents help them some, and they're going to learn also. Friendly vendors at the market know their products and love answering questions about them. Farmers' markets are not only the place to buy great fresh produce and other things. It's a great place to meet new friends while supporting the local community as well.
