Shortly after there were several virtue ethicists who contrasted themselves with Aristotle filling different niches of metaethical realism. All this optimism came into question with the situationists who argued situations were more likely to determine our behavior than our virtues. But this in the end depends on whether virtue is really a character trait, sensitivity, or skill.
