Violence in Today's School Workplace: Protecting Teachers and School Employees in a Violent Age

By Diane H. Williamson, David E Strecker, Henry Townsend, et al.

This book offers the unique, proactive viewpoint of three professionals who are gravely concerned about the devastating effects of violence and bloodshed in our modern school workplace. Increasingly, headlines today report out-of-control student violence occurring in our schools and colleges. Yet often very little concrete action is taken to protect the bystanding victims of this trauma: school workers, including classroom teachers, administrators, coaches, school bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, and other school employees. The authors pour into this book their combined decades of hands-on experience with three main forces involved in this disruptive trauma: (1) the legal rights, concerns, and recourse for all parties involved with violence; (2) aberrant student behavior and how to manage it; and (3) health-safety protection. They bring light to the complex set of issues surrounding school workplace violence and offer proactive solutions.
