I am not Italian, but I loved this book. In an age of sentimental and sappy looks at Italy, this book combines humor, realism, and the joy of being Italian in an American context. I enjoyed the history involved in the story of growing up Italian in California, and the hilarity of traveling outside the usual tourist destinations in Italy. If you have been to Italy, you know these people. If you haven't, you will enjoy meeting them. I liked the "bite-sized" vignettes and the lack of pomposity.

It would be especially interesting to those who have traveled to Europe to visit their "roots" or to those who plan to. Be prepared to laugh a lot!

If you've been to Italy, you can identify with every observation the author makes. If you haven't been, you're going to start planning your trip now. The book is funny and insightful. I laughed out loud all the way through it!

If you have ever been to Italy this is a must read. I loved the perspective and it reminded me of all of the nuances that I quickly forgot after returning from the trip.
