Some of the challenges faced - such as falling in a crevasse or being abandoned on a mountain - provide insights into what it is like to attempt to climb mountains for someone who is a professional economist and not a professional mountaineer. This book is personal as you get a sense of the manner in which Michael responded to various challenges. Michael has been keeping a daily journal since 1980 and the specifics for his racing and mountain climbing vignettes come directly from these journals.
