When my husband suggested we list our home as a furnished rental, I doubted anyone would apply. After all, we lived in the middle of suburbia and there were countless other rentals in the area.

Someone did reach out, though, and asked if we could move right away. A family had lost their home in a fire and between two parents, three kids, and a dog, the hotel room they were being housed in wasn't big enough.

We scrambled to put all of our sentimental items in a storage unit, close our small business, arrange visas, spent a week visiting with friends and family as we weren't sure when we'd see them next.
