Victoria Meadows moves from Manhattan to Twelve Lakes in upstate New York, an area dominated by thousands of acres of state parks, lakes, and steep mountain slopes. She builds a massive lodge on the edge of a grand state park and offers horseback riding and other outdoor adventures that draw an entirely new kind of tourist to this remote northern village.

When business booms, Victoria has a new set of problems. The locals resent her success and culture. Nothing in the area measures up to the posh atmosphere of Victory Lodge and Victoria isn't shy about saying so.
