I intend to go to the Dolomites in July to enjoy some Via Ferrata routes. Never having been there before or done any serious via ferrata routes, I wanted the best information and advice available and the means to plan an itinerary that is both feasible and enjoyable. This publication provides excellent advice about equipment needed for the activity in question and a good grading system both technical and descriptive to enable the user to choose between the large number of routes described. The provision of timing guides and altitude gain figures are also invaluable for planning. The book is a translation from the original German and the text suffers a little from this. Many maps and topos are provided, but they lack indicative scales and this makes them less useful than they might be. How useful the book proves to be will only be fully evident after my trip, but I certainly feel happier about undertaking the trip knowing that I have a valuable resource in my possession both for planning and as a guide on the ground for my trip
