Along the walls of the nave of practically all Catholic Churches are 14 carvings, pictures, or other form of depiction of 14 events singled out for contemplation of the Passion of Christ. These artistic representations are referred to as the "stations" of the cross and the devotion of praying the stations is called the Way of the Cross or by its Latin name of Via Crucis (or Via Dolorosa).
