James Herriot, strapped into the cockpit of a Tiger Moth trainer, feels rather out of place, but he hasn't found a new profession and it surely won't be long before the RAF come round to his point of view . . . From the author whose books inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small , Vet in a Spin , James Herriot's sixth volume of unforgettable memoirs sees him dreaming of the day when he can rejoin his wife Helen, little son Jimmy, veterinary partner Siegfried, the eternal student Tristan - and all the old Darrowby cows, both two-legged and four.
Great book. I would have liked to have known that these are not "new" stories, but part of his larger volumes. I enjoy the small size and I don't mind rereading his stories.
Engaging & humorous, a peek into the life of a vet.

I listened to this book on tape...very well read with that British humor glinting through. It made a long car trip really fun. The stories have interesting characters, both animal and human, and give a personal glimpse into the lives of people and their pets. The human side of the stories is as interesting as the animals are, and the word pictures of life in pre-war Britain are made me long for a simpler life and time.
