Vert-Vert: A Poem, In Four Cantos (1840) is a literary work by Jean Baptiste L. Gresset. The poem tells the story of a parrot named Vert-Vert who is sent to a convent in France. The nuns at the convent become enamored with the parrot, and he becomes the center of their attention. However, Vert-Vert soon becomes corrupted by the attention and begins to indulge in worldly pleasures, such as drinking and womanizing. The poem is divided into four cantos and is written in rhyming couplets. It is a satirical work that critiques the excesses of religious institutions and the hypocrisy of those who claim to be pious. The poem was first published in 1734 and has since been translated into several languages. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
