Raised on her parent's ranch in Pinecone, Montana, Annie Johnson was excited about attending the local public school as a first grader. Her excitement soon turned to anxiety and fear as three older girls found her an easy target for their bullying and made her life a living hell. By the time Annie was able to tell her parents the truth about what was happening, she had a serious stutter and couldn't look people in the eye. Eighteen years later, she graduates from college with an MBA and returns home to look for work. In a freak accident, she is struck by lightning. When she comes out of a six-week coma she can hear voices, and soon realizes they are the thoughts of people in the vicinity. Because of her past experiences, she decides to use the Gift to fight back against the bullies and bad guys of the world. Knowing the danger to her if people learn she can read their minds, Annie and her dad start a company named VERITAS and before long there are eight 'Guardians' committed to protecting Annie and her secret. She doesn't want to be judge, jury or executioner... just the witness.
