VERDICT: HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE BIBLE

The Bible, both implicitly and explicitly, prohibits homosexual behavior. Using both homosexual and Biblical source materials as the basis for this study, the author addresses and debunks a number of arguments proposed by the proponents of homosexuality, and considers a number of questions, including the following: (1) What do Biblical texts say about homosexuality? Does Biblical philosophy condone or condemn homosexual behavior?(2) What does Jesus' statement "[j]udge not, that ye be not judged" mean? Does it indicate his approval of homosexual behavior?(3) What, if anything, did Jesus say about homosexuality, and what does this mean?(4) Were some key Biblical characters homosexuals?(5) Is the anti-homosexual rhetoric of the Bible applicable to all cases of homosexuality, or are there caveats for some homosexual relationships? (6) Do genetic issues legitimize homosexual behavior?(7) Does the Bible define homosexual behavior as sinful behavior?(8) Is homosexual behavior compatible with the demands of Christianity?(9) What is the Church to do in response to practicing homosexuals in its midst?By contemplating and answering each of these questions, the author effectively crushes the assertion that Judeo-Christian ethics and homosexuality are compatible, and provides an effective tool for those dealing with this dilemma. The book is divided into two main sections. Part I consists of arguments that are offered in support of homosexuality and the integration of practicing homosexuals into the Church, and includes counter-arguments addressing those positions. Part II focuses on the relationship of homosexuality to Christianity, whether it is sinful, whether it is compatible with the demands Christianity, and how the Church is to respond to practicing homosexuals who are within its ranks. The book also includes an annotated compendium of all applicable Biblical texts pertaining to homosexuality, which serves to illuminate the remarkably consistent perspective of both Biblical characters and authors relative to this subject. The book includes end notes with both reference information and additional material relative to the subject at hand.
