In 2012, in honor of the 60th anniversary of Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," Frank Benditt wrote the unauthorized sequel, "Manolin and the Sea" and dedicated it to Hemingway. This work is a sequel to that sequel. After their harrowing shark fishing adventure with Manolin and the old man, Von and Yarley have taken ownership of the sports fishing cruiser, VENGER. They now make their living running tuna charters and have built a glowing reputation near and far for their know-how and fishing expertise. On a morning that dawns clear and fresh, they set out on a promising two-day tuna catching excursion. Bluefin are passing by far off the coast in the hundreds on their migration towards colder waters. The fishing is expected to be excellent. When they reach the Gulf Stream, surrounded by miles and miles of shoreless crystal blue sea, they're fishing at high tide in ninety-nine fathoms. Following a series of mishaps by their inexperienced charter party, they're able to land one Giant Tuna the first day. The next day, a puzzling silhouette materializes on the horizon, bearing down on their location, moving across the water at a steady pace. Drawing still nearer, the image turns out to be a ship, a workboat of a tonnage far superior to VENGER. The large rusted, weatherworn and dilapidated craft that approaches hardly looks seaworthy and appears to be a ship in distress. As the vessels cross each other's wake, two mysterious men jump aboard VENGER. What starts as a routine fishing trip goes terribly wrong and becomes a life or death struggle beyond imagination involving mayhem, pirates and vampires.
