Veil of the Damned (The Infernal Descent Series)

By Joseph A. Sackett

A legendary book lost to the ages, a tomb hidden within the enigmatic town of Edenbrooke, and a man, Daniel Thompson, driven by an obsession that will lead him into the heart of darkness itself. The spellbinding opener of the Infernal Descent Series, "Veil of the Damned," is where the realms of the damned and the saved eerily merge. Daniel's life is irrevocably altered when his scholarly pursuit of the Tesoretto, the elusive manuscript that precedes Dante's Divine Comedy, morphs into an unimaginable horror. This quest leads him and his wife, Eve, into the depths of an ancient tomb, the resting place of the coveted book, only for Eve to disappear without a trace under its mysterious influence. Faced with a reality more terrifying than any nightmare, Daniel finds himself alone, his pleas for help thwarted by a supernatural storm that besieges the small town of Edenbrooke with red lightning and unrelenting rain. With authorities reluctant to intervene amidst the chaos, desperation fuels Daniel's return to the crypt. But as he steps back into its shadows, he is not simply entering a tomb but crossing into a ghastly mirror image of his own town--Edenbrooke transfigured into the first circle of Hell. Daniel's journey through this perverse version of Hell, in search of the Tesoretto and his lost wife, is a harrowing trek across circles fraught with personal and physical demons. Each step forward is a battle against the embodiment of fear and despair, pushing Daniel to the brink of his humanity and forcing him to confront the terrifying question of what it means to be truly lost. "Veil of the Damned" is more than a horror story; it is an odyssey of love, loss, and the indomitable will to reclaim what was once held dear. This heart-wrenching tale invites you on a terrifying journey into the depths of Hell, challenging you to consider the lengths to which you would go to retrieve a lost love from the clutches of damnation.
