According to chronological sequence of shooting time, the photos included in this book are all taken by myself during the demolition period of Beijing. The photos illustrate those vanished and vanishing Hutongs and typical courtyards and gate towers along with their bricks and door stones, as well as daily living scenes of ordinary people. Except the photo of the street tower of Guanyinyuan taken by a film SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera in 1995, the majority of the photos were taken by digital cameras from 2005 to 2007, and a few by a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera in recent years. These photos I took are all documentary with minimal editing by Photoshop. Whenever I review them, I feel like I am travelling in time. Now I wish to demonstrate the authentic and traditional old Beijing from the 1990s to the 2000s by sharing these photos of scenes as they appeared in my eyes. I took these photos to help people to understand this period of history and Chinese culture and to love and cherish the old Beijing.
