The narrative centres around the 19th century Dutch master artist; the main protagonist, Timmy, who lived in modern-day Singapore; and Timmy's grandmother, an immigrant of peasant descent. It criss-crosses between different time periods while linking the main characters one with another naturally. This is a story about the meaning of beauty in art.
