The History of Accenture - Values, Drive and Leadership
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
The history of Accenture is, in many ways, the history of global business consulting and information technology services for more than the past half century. Yet in the minds of many of the company's 120,000 employees, and for much of the public, the history of Accenture dates back to only 2001, at best. Why the keen awareness of the most recent years and not earlier history? The answer lies in a question poised by William Shakespeare nearly four centuries ago: What's in a name? Accenture is a top global business brand today, yet the name didn't even exist until October 2000. The company, then known as Anderson Consulting, was required to rename itself by January 1, 2001, as part of a historic international arbitration decision rendered in August 2000. That's when the arbitration ruling severed all ties between Anderson Consulting and as well as the umbrella organization Anderson Worldwide. Although Anderson Consulting had operated as a legally separate business until 1989, senior management had concluded months before the arbitration decision that the company would need a new name in order to develop its own identity in the marketplace. This history of Accenture places these seminal events of 2000 and 2001 in the context of more than a half century of pathbreaking global leadership in the fields of information technology and consulting, beginning in the late 1940s. And its traces the core values and principles that have guided Accenture from the beginning in providing industry-leading client service for its employees. Despite the many changes the company has undergone to serve its clients and respond to changing markets, Accenture remains true to its orgininal beliefs. Each generation of Accenture employees has embraced these principles as its own. They have passed on to the next generation a company that remains unmatched in its dedication to helping transform the way the world lives and works.
