In this book I propose the possibility of considering the construction of value together with that of spaces and identities in a triple relationship of implication through the analysis of eight alternative economy initiatives in the Patzcuaro Basin, in Michoac n, Mexico.Although these initiatives share certain characteristics, perspectives and objectives, their particular genesis, processes and routes of action configure different 'worlds' of exchange that, consequently, translate into different ways of relating value, spaces and identities.Likewise, the actors' efforts to 'change the world' through these initiatives represent varied possibilities for re-signifying the notion of utopia by removing it from literary or totalitarian realms in at least two ways: by establishing different levels of critique of the contemporary world and by producing consequences in its immediate present.
